The Fox Valley Area High School Glass Exhibition at Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass will open on Saturday, March 4th to showcase talented young area artists in celebration of national Youth Art Month. Among the 242 students from 16 area schools who participated are six students of Joan Kirschling from Stockbridge High School

The students worked in The Glass Studio in January. They worked glass over torches in the flameworking studio with Beth Wenger Johnstone. From Sara Rezin, they learned the fusing technique of open weaving with glass strips and incorporating negative space to create dishes.

Their instructor, Joan Kirschling, thought it important to give her students as much exposure to the arts as possible through offerings in the community.  Since Stockbridge isn’t able to work with glass, Kirschling brought them here to try it.

Here is some of their work.
